Landless labourers, unemployed and uneducated men and women farmers of Haryana will now get financial and technical help in setting up a beekeeping unit. For this, an MOU has been signed

between Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar and Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the presence of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.R.Kamboj, Dr. Jeetram Sharma, Director of Research on behalf of the University and SK Kanojia, Executive Director, Northern Regional Pipeline on behalf of Indian Oil Corporation Limited. 



Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.R. Kamboj said that Haryana is one of the leading States in honey production in India as it has varying Agro-climatic conditions and crop diversity in

different zones. In Haryana, where average land holding is less than 0.75 ha, beekeeping can provide better food, balanced nutrition and additional income to small and marginal farmers and self-employment to unemployed youth. In addition to the revenue obtained from honey and other bee products, pollination activates of honeybees will contribute to the increased crop yield to the extent of 20-80 per cent in most cultivated crops through cross pollination.

S.K. Kanojia, Executive Director, Northern Regional Pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. said that Beekeeping enterprise is suitable for people from all walks of life as a hobby, subsidiary occupation for supplementing income or as a whole-time job for self-employment. He hoped that this MoU with CCSHAU, Hisar will help to achieve goals of Corporate Social Responsibility. He further said that this collaboration will usher a real ‘Madhu Kranti’ in Haryana as also to fulfil the goal of Govt. of India and Govt. of Haryana of doubling farmers income.

Dr. Sunita Yadav, Head and Project Officer, Department of Entomology, said that four districts of Haryana have been selected in the initial phase under the Madhukranti scheme, on the theme of sustainable economic and nutritional security by adopting scientific beekeeping and diversification in various districts of Haryana. These districts include Karnal, Kurukshetra, Jhajjar and Sonipat. A total of 120 unemployed youth and women from these four districts will be given training related to beekeeping for setting up small beekeeping units with the supervision and help of Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

On this occasion, apart from Deputy General Manager, Neeraj Singh and Manager Anurag Jaiswal from Northern Regional Pipeline, OSD Dr. Atul Dhingra, Dean PGS Dr. K.D. Sharma, Co-Project Coordinator in the Department of Entomology, Dr. Surendra Singh Yadav, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Harish were also present.

          In a bid to make Punjab a front-runner state in green & clean energy production across the country, New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora on Friday said that Punjab Green Hydrogen Policy drafted by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), will help to convert the agriculture residues, which is now considered as a liability, into green energy assets. 

          Presiding over a half-day Open-House Session on the Draft Green Hydrogen Policy for the State of Punjab organized here at CII, Mr. Aman Arora said that the Policy aims to make Punjab a Green Hydrogen/Ammonia producer with a production capacity of 100 Kilo tons per annum by the year 2030, besides, developing innovative manufacturing capacities of producing Hydrogen such as biomass gasification, steam methane reforming, electrolysis of waste water, Hydrogen fuel blending etc. This initiative will pave a way to explore the technologies for producing green hydrogen from biomass as Punjab Government has been making concerted efforts to make the state no.1 in production of clean and green energy.

          Punjab has been mainly focusing on the production of green hydrogen from biomass, which is an attractive option for the transition to a zero-carbon future as 20 million tons of paddy straw is being generated annually in the State, he added.

          Emphasising on the significance of Green Hydrogen and its applications, Chairman PEDA  H.S. Hanspal said that this draft policy is not just a set of goals but a testament to our commitment to a sustainable future for the state.

          Chief Executive Officer PEDA Dr. Amarpal Singh said that Punjab is committed to be leaders in the country to contribute towards green fuel for the future which will not only bring prosperity but will also ensure the energy security of the country. He also highlighted the various incentives now being planned to be provided under the Green Hydrogen Policy of the state.

          Director PEDA  M.P. Singh shared the various initiatives of PEDA which are based on a strategy for utilization of the paddy straw for conversion into useful fuel /energy for meeting the requirements of the State.

          Chair of Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy & Research, IISC, Bangalore Prof. Dr. S. Dasappa and Director General National Institute of Bio-Energy, MNRE, GoI Dr. G. Sridhar appreciated the initiatives taken by PEDA in promotion of green and clean energy.

          Dr. S. Dasappa delivered a presentation on an innovative technology to produce hydrogen from biomass. Rohit Kumar from PEDA also gave a presentation on the salient features of Draft Green Hydrogen Policy for the State of Punjab.           Representatives from Industries including NLT, HMEL, HPCL, GAIL, Indian Oil, NFL, Vardhman, Sport king, Nahar Group & Industrial associations, consultancy firms, Academic Institutes, Energy Auditors / Managers also participated in the session.
